Hitting 100 on Lighthouse is easy; staying there is not

What happened three months after the score improved, which change crept back, and how I automated the measurement.

Getting a site to 100 takes a day. The real problem is still being there three months later. Here is how the score crept back and how I automated the measurement.

Three things that drop the score

  • Large images uploaded from the panel (when conversion is not automatic)
  • Third-party scripts added later
  • Font changes and late-loading resources

The fix is not leaving measurement to a person: I run Lighthouse on every deploy and block the release when it falls below the threshold.
